Job DescriptionTe Whiwhinga mahi | The opportunity
The Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Teaching Technician – Optometry to support the delivery of high‑quality teaching within the optometry teaching suite and clinic. In this role, you will play a key part in supporting activities across optometry teaching spaces, including both the clinic and teaching suite. You will provide essential technical support for optometry teaching, ensuring the learning environment operates effectively. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical skills and experience within a tertiary teaching environment.
This is a full-time, permanent position.
The salary range for this role is $65,000-$76,000 based on skills and experience.

You are a qualified dispensing optician with a strong technical foundation and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in clinical education. You bring a minimum of three years’ experience in the optical industry and possess the ability to translate complex technical knowledge into effective learning experiences.

As this role involves working in the eye clinic, the position may involve contact with children but does not include primary care, supervision, or authority over them. Therefore a Vulnerable Children Act (Children’s Act 2014) Children’s Worker Safety Check is required. The University of Auckland will administer this check, and any employment will be conditional upon a satisfactory outcome.
