Optic Security Group
A new purpose-built private ophthalmology clinic in Wellington is seeking a versatile and highly motivated individual to join our dedicated team. This is a unique opportunity to work alongside our ophthalmologist and other members of the healthcare team, contributing to exceptional patient care in a modern, supportive environment.
This part time (32 hours per week) position is multifaceted, combining clinical technical duties with essential administrative and scribe responsibilities to ensure smooth clinic operations and excellent patient flow.
Ophthalmic Technician Duties (Approx. 60%):
Perform a variety of diagnostic tests and procedures (e.g., visual acuity, tonometry, visual fields, OCT, topography).
Prepare patients for examination and assist the Ophthalmologist during procedures.
Maintain and calibrate clinical equipment.
Educate patients on pre- and post-operative care and medication instructions.
Scribing (Approx. 30%):
Accurately document patient-ophthalmologist encounters in real-time within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).
Record patient history, physical exam findings, assessments, and treatment plans.
Ensure all charting is completed and ready for ophthalmologist review before the end of the appointment.
Reception and Administration (Approx. 10%):
Greet patients and manage the patient check-in/check-out process.
Schedule appointments and manage the clinic's calendar.
Handle phone inquiries, referrals, and billing processes.
Maintain patient records and general office organisation.
The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to patient care, precision in clinical work, and efficiency in administrative tasks.
Proven experience as an Ophthalmic Technician (minimum 2 years).
Demonstrable experience or proficiency in medical scribing, ideally within ophthalmology.
Excellent technical skills in performing diagnostic eye procedures.
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
High level of accuracy, attention to detail, and professional presentation.
Ability to multitask and prioritise in a fast-paced clinical setting.
Certification (e.g., COA, COT, or equivalent international qualification).
Experience with VIP.net or similar practice management software.
Knowledge of health and safety standards specific to a New Zealand clinical environment.
