WHO ARE WE? KO WAI MĀTOU?

Every day brings new opportunities when you are part of our team at Taupō District Council. Our diverse organisation is recognised for its vibrant energy, optimism for the future, ambition to act boldly and willingness to do things differently to secure the best result. We take a balanced and community-focused approach that allows us to strive with consideration on behalf of our district. We are motivated by ensuring we are a district of connected communities who thrive and embrace opportunities and hold this greater purpose in mind in all that we do.

ABOUT THE ROLE - NGĀ ĀHUATANGA O TE TŪRANGA

This is a senior, practical leadership role for someone who enjoys being close to the technology, the people and the day-to-day challenges that keep a digital environment running well. You'll help translate our digital direction into a practical, future-focused technical roadmap, guiding the ongoing development of our infrastructure, platforms and services so they are secure, resilient, reliable and ready for what comes next.

You'll lead IT operations with a practical focus, supporting the team while improving the infrastructure, platforms and services our people rely on every day to keep them secure, reliable, resilient and fit for purpose.

With governance, risk and cybersecurity at the heart of the role, you'll help embed sound security and compliance practices while driving continuous improvement across service delivery. You'll also bring a practical, operational lens to emerging issues, supporting sound decision-making and working closely with internal teams and external partners to keep services stable, secure and continuously improving.

As our priorities evolve, you'll have the opportunity to shape how things are done, bring clarity to processes, strengthen team capability and influence the way our digital platforms support the organisation now and into the future.

You'll be comfortable guiding others, fostering collaboration, and working across the organisation to support shared outcomes. With a balanced approach, you'll contribute to both day-to-day delivery and ongoing improvements, helping create an environment where the team can perform at its best.

You'll also bring:

  • Proven leadership experience, with the ability to coach, mentor and grow team capability
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills, including influencing at senior and executive levels
  • Experience managing vendors and building effective external partnerships
