Vision Solutions Engineer

Location: Auckland
Employment Type: Full Time

Build the Future of Industrial Vision

Are you an engineer with a passion for machine vision, mechatronics or industrial automation?

Do you enjoy solving technical problems and seeing your ideas come to life on the factory floor?

We're looking for a Vision Solutions Engineer to join our growing Engineered Solutions team. This is an outstanding opportunity for someone with up to three years' experience who wants to accelerate their career working with world-leading machine vision technology from Cognex and Basler, integrated with Markem-Imaje coding and traceability solutions.

Every project is different. One week you could be developing an AI vision system to detect product defects. The next you could be designing a solution to verify packaging integrity, read variable data with OCR, or inspect high-speed production lines for some of New Zealand's leading manufacturers.

If you enjoy variety, practical engineering and solving challenging automation problems, we'd love to hear from you.

About the Role

You'll be involved throughout the entire project lifecycle—from identifying customer requirements and proving concepts through to designing, commissioning and supporting complete vision systems.

Working alongside our sales and engineering teams, you'll help manufacturers improve product quality, reduce waste and increase production efficiency using the latest machine vision technologies.

This is a hands-on role that combines office-based engineering with time in our workshop and customer manufacturing sites throughout New Zealand.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Working with our sales team to identify customer opportunities and develop innovative vision solutions.

  • Conducting site visits to understand manufacturing processes and inspection challenges.

  • Selecting the most appropriate cameras, optics, lighting and software for each application.

  • Performing laboratory feasibility studies and proof-of-concept testing.

  • Designing and configuring machine vision systems using Cognex and Basler technologies.

  • Supporting the mechanical and electrical integration of complete inspection systems.

  • Installing, commissioning and optimising systems at customer sites throughout New Zealand.

  • Providing technical support and ongoing customer assistance.

  • Assisting with PLC and HMI integration where required.

About You

You enjoy practical engineering and like seeing projects through from concept to commissioning.

You're naturally curious, enjoy learning new technologies and take pride in solving real-world manufacturing problems.

Ideally you'll have:

  • A degree or diploma in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering or a related discipline.

  • Up to three years' experience in machine vision, automation, robotics, mechatronics or industrial control systems.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work directly with customers.

  • A willingness to travel throughout New Zealand for commissioning and customer support.

  • A full New Zealand driver's licence (or the ability to obtain one).

Why Join Mitech?

You'll be joining one of New Zealand's leading industrial automation companies and working with some of the world's most advanced machine vision technology.

We offer:

  • The opportunity to work with globally recognised brands including Cognex, Basler and Markem-Imaje.

  • A wide variety of interesting projects across food, beverage, construction, packaging and manufacturing industries.

  • Ongoing technical training from leading international suppliers.

  • Mentoring from experienced automation and vision engineers.

  • A supportive team that encourages learning and professional development.

  • Real responsibility and ownership of projects early in your career.

  • Competitive salary and opportunities for career growth.
